Out of all the books I've read, this is the character I would love to be- smart, resourceful, well-conected but completely under the radar, and just an all-around badass motherfucker. Jack is the creation of F. Paul Wilson if you've never heard of him... When you have a problem with your pipes, you call a plumber; when the lights go out, you call an electrician- when the shit hits the fan- you call Repairman Jack. Someone beats up your grandmother downtown and the cops don't or can't do shit? He'll find the punk-ass bitch that did it and he'll make them pay- for a little extra, I think he'll let you perform the coup de grace. He'll right the wrong in a very satisfying way that conventional justice never can. He's cool...

I just bought a new book...:D

I think I read the first Jack book. It was retroactively included in the series of novels springing from Wilson's "The Keep", after Jack appeared in the last book of the series. It was all marketing, really, as the first Jack story was not at all related to "The Keep". They pulled the same trick with the doctor from "The Touch". They roped me into reading two extra books that were supposedly parts 2 and 3, but that had nothing to do with the main story. At least the books were enjoyable. :)

The first Jack book I read was The Tomb. I've pretty much worn out my copy. I thought the movie version of The Keep kind of sucked (at least after I went back and watched about a year ago.) I liked the book a lot, though.

"The Tomb" was the one I read. It was Jack versus gargoyles if I remember correctly. I didn't know there were more "Jack" novels, until recently.

"The Keep" is, ultimately, not a good film, but I still kinda like it. It has some neat atmosphere, a cool story, and is a fun look at the early directing style of a pre-"Miami Vice" Michael Mann. I think its biggest failing was never really explaining what the heck was going on, and who these warring immortals were.

The true sequels to the "Keep" book are worth checking out. They include: "Reborn", "Reprisal" and the massive global apocalypse/final show-down in "Nightworld", which is where Jack reappears.
