View Full Version : Can I Sweat Now?
So I've been reading this book titled "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" and underneath the title it goes on to say "and it's all small stuff." I got this book thinking it would help me to be able to deal with stressful situations. In a way it has, it's really a good book and I like it, though currently I've found it's been difficult to use all the good advice it gives. I guess it takes practice or something. The book talks about not letting your problems snowball in your head to the point where you have an avalanche. It doesn't seem to mention anything about millions of little snowballs coming at you all at once, or I just didn't get that far into yet.
The reason I'm writing this is that I feel really stressed out, though coming here makes me feel better. It feels good to be able to come here and know that others go through the same things or have similar situations happening in their life. Sometimes it's more helpful just chatting with friends than it is to get advice from one man's thought's in a book. You guys are great for being here I really enjoy this place and all of you.
i agree, i've still got a small crick in my neck from the super-stressful day i had on Monday. You people make me smile most of the time
Check out "who moved my cheese" from the local lending library too. it's the same kinda book, helps you get your mind right, on any major life changes that can happen...
Thanks for the recommendation. My sister has that book, I've been meaning to ask her how it was and if I could borrow it, though by the sounds of it, I doubt she's actually read it. She's been in and out of the mental health ward.
Yeah, this place makes my day better. Actually with all the stress at home, I look forward to going to work. How sad is that?

The last self-help book you'll ever need. (http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/dispatch/1999-12-31/xtra_feature4.html)
It sounds really mean , and it is, and that's why it really puts everything in perspective. It's also fucking hilarious.
A couple excerpts:
Tomorrow is going to be even worse than today.
Think for a moment about how bad things have been going lately.
You're really up shit creek.
Glad I'm not you.
I hate to see someone cry , so get lost already.
Maybe you should binge on ice cream
Or mask the pain with drugs.
Just so you know , there's nothing anyone can do make things any better.
No one's really interested making things better for you anyway.
....
You are really messed up . Yes ,it's true that everybody is messed up to a certain extent . But you are alot more messed up than other people .
Reveal to a dear friend that your life is falling apart and watch her quickly lose interest and distance herself from you. Go ahead, try it.
You know those beer commercials where all those really good friends are getting together to drink and they're all super good-looking and seem to be incredibly close ? Fess up, you don't have any friends like that .
If you had never met your friends and you had been born in Iraq or something , they would probably not care if you got bombed. In fact , they would probably support the idea.
There are alot of things you could admit to your friends that would cause them never to call you again. If they knew who you really were they'd hate you .
Better keep up the charade.

It puts it all into perspective!
I have the don't sweat the small stuff at work book, and it didn't help me as much as I heard it would.
If you lived here I would take you out for a beer and we could make fun of people. That always makes me cheer up!

I knew someone would feel the same way. :D

I did not know about that book.

And if I lived there I'd take you up on that offer. You really know how to cheer someone up. Thanks. :)
