hi all,
I really wanted to see the movie memoirs of a geisha but was told that reading the book first would be a good idea.
I have just finnished it and it is ther best book that i have ever read.
It is heartbreaking and heartwarming and a lot of things in between, which i wont mention incase you havent read it.
I would really like to know what other people think of it and if they have seen the movie how do they think it compares?
I myself am a huge fan of meikos and geisha, there whole culture astounds me. :) :)

I read the book years ago when I was living in San Francisco. It is still in my top ten favorites. It made me concerned when I saw they were making a movie out of it.
However, I was VERY pleasantly suprised when I watched it. It does the original story justice without making it neat and clean and too hollywood. Also the visuals are incredible. It's worth buying, in my opinon.

I enjoyed the movie, but hadn't read the book. The thing that shocked me is the entire movie except for one shot was completely shot in LA. That was all sound stages and 2 outdoor scenes done at the botanical gardens here. It completely deserved all three oscars it received.

Wow! I didn't know that. Pretty damn impressive set direction.
