Hyperion Books Announces "I Shouldn't Even Be Doing This" Goes On Sale September 19th. It's Bob Newhart's autobiography. Link (http://www.bobnewhart.com/newsDetails.cfm?NewsID=20)

I'm MAJORLY looking forward to this. I'm a HUGE Bob Newhart fan. I have CDs, records, DVDs...anything I can find. If you are unfamilar with his work, FOR SHAME! You could go run out right now and pick some of his CDs up.

Quotes about the book:

“Bob Newhart’s book is in the same hilarious, conversational style that has made him one of my favorite comics, and one that has inspired and influenced my career. I loved it.” - Ray Romano

“Some of Bob Newhart’s most brilliant monologues and funniest stories appear in this book. It is a nostalgic read for fans like me, and a textbook for comedians just starting out who want to learn from the best.” - Ellen DeGeneres

“Reading this book is like spending time with a friend you not only love and are comfortable with but who also makes you laugh out loud. Let me put it this way: ‘I’m so glad we had this time together…’” - Carol Burnett

“Do you think it annoys other comics that Bob has had success in every form of show business? Do you think other comedians will be annoyed that he has written this hilarious account of his life on the road to success? Do you think I will let the air out of his tires every chance I get? You can take it to the bank.” - Tim Conway

“How nice to be able to praise a book without having to jump-start my sincerity. Bob Newhart is hands down (or, even better, applauding) one of the funniest men on the planet.” - Larry Gelbart

“Bob, your book is an absolute winner…Please send my check as soon as possible.” - Don Rickles

Bob Newhart was the guest when I was in the front row of The Tonight Show. He was such a fun, engaging guy, even with the camera not rolling. I became a fan after that, even thought I always loved Newhart the show.

I've only seen a couple episodes and can't remember much of it... Bob was a hotel clerk or something and there was a bunch of Darrels there. I thought about trying to see if I can rent them or find them on tv somewhere.

Though I did see Bob in Elf. I love that movie. :D

Newhart was where he owned the inn. Then there was The Bob Newhart Show where he was a shrink. At the end of Newhart, he woke up with his wife from the Bob Newhart show.

He's great in everything. Elf and even In and Out as the principal.

I picked it up last week. I'm a couple chapters in so far. The intro is great. He explains the title, what he wanted to call it and why the lawyers wouldn't let him call it that.

My favorite little story about his childhood is his mom was losing her mind as she got older. She turned to her daughter one day and asked "Is your father still alive?" "No, he passed a while ago." "That man used to drive me up a wall and I could have just killed him. (pause) I didn't kill him, did I?" Or something like that.

Just finished the book. It was great. I had no idea that Buddy Hackett introduced him to his wife nor that Don Rickles was his best friend. I recommend this for a nice light read that you could probably finish the whole book in an airplane trip.

The next time I go on travel, I'll have to pick this one up. I'm a sucker for a well-written biography.

I said who wants to fuckin' touch me?!! :)

I know it's lame, but I've been a fan of his ever since his appearance on The Simpsons.
Since then I've watched his show whenever I could (it's mostly reserved for late-night reruns) and stuff like Elf.
He is a seriously funny individual.

No camera were allowed, sorry.

It was pretty cool. I was the youngest there willingly (looked like a couple of kids were dragged there) by about 15-20 years. Bob was funny as always. Such a great performer makes his routines sound like he's just coming up with stuff on the spot. So funny. He told some good jokes too which is rare since he usually is more known for routines and not jokes. I'm so glad I went.
